Beauty and the Beast

Bell from Beauty and the Beast. This was for my daughter Annalyse's 3rd birthday. We went through every character possible to figure out what she wanted for a birthday cake. She finally landed on a barbie cake and then given all the choices for that she chose Bell. I bought the barbie of corse (I liked this ones hair). Annalyse will only eat the fondant and fillings, not the actual cake, so the dress is all fondant. I made all the creases and then added candy pearls to it. She loved it!

Pumpkin

Here is something a little festive, a pumpkin cake. Well okay the color isn't really orange because I ran out of orange spray and it was just for us and friends so I didn't mind too much. So call it a squash or something. I built it just like any other cake and then just carved it out with a knife to make the ridges. The stem and leaves are fondant. It's just a little something different to add to the Thanksgiving table.

Mom's Birthday cake

My parents where going to be at my house for my mom's birthday and I have never really been able to make cakes for my family so i seized the opportunity. I made her a two tiered cake. I decided to make the stripes go horizontally instead of vertically just to have a different look. I hand cut the flowers out of gum-paste and stuck them on the cake. I think it turned out cute and she loved it. It was a bit more cake than we actually needed for 5 people, but I wanted her to be spoiled for once.

Fresh Roses

This simple but elegant cake is two tiers. It is covered in a smooth vanilla white fondant. There is a ivory ribbon running along the bottom of both tiers and big red roses on the top. Even though there isn't much to this cake, sometimes it doesn't take a lot to make a statement. For this cake that statement is love.

Hello Kitty

This cake is dedicated to my niece Averi. She loves Hello Kitty and all things pink so this cake is perfect for her. It is a 7 inch square cake covered in pink colored fondant. I hand cut Hello kitty out of different colored fondant and then stuck it onto the cake. You can't really see them in the picture but there are red flowers cut out and stuck all around the cake too. This was a very simple and fun cake to do.

Burberry Box

This cake was fun to do, and went fairly fast once the cake was built and the colors made. It uses the classic burberry colors and pattern. It was actually really easy to do but I think it came out looking very clean and neat. The entire cake is covered in fondant (but does have a light layer of vanilla buttercream under the fondant). I used the tan as the background color and then layered the white, red, and black colored fondant over it. I am happy with the end result and think I captured the essence of burberry.

The Baby Train

This baby shower cake was iced in vanilla buttercream. The decoration idea actually came from the invitation for the party. This is a very common thing to use to make sure that the party theme is apparent in all aspects. All of the decorations on the cake were made out of fondant and then some were embellished with some colored buttercream. The train and a few other decals were textured to add some more dimension to the cake. Also to add to the cake the bottom was finished with a double fondant ribbon.

Welcome to Vegas

I choose this cake because we are living in Las Vegas now and it just seemed perfect. The cake is frosted in vanilla buttercream icing. The poker chips, famous "Welcome to Vegas" sign, and other elements are made out of fondant. I made the poker chips all different colors to make the cake more fun and tried to make the Vegas sign as close as possible. I used cookie cutters to cut out the poker chips and some of the letters, everything else I cut out free hand.

About the Blog

I have decided that I am going to have a new featured cake every month on the blog. I will put the picture of the cake and a description of the cake or how I made something for it. Hopefully I can do this in the first week of each month. If it goes well and I have enough cakes maybe I will change the featured cake more often. If there are any questions on cakes that are on the different pages, I would be happy to answer them. I hope that this will be entertaining for everyone to read and look at. Enjoy.
