How fun are ruffles?!

My sister and sister-in-law both have birthdays in May. We all got together and I made them a cake. I have wanted to try a ruffle cake for a while now and thought this was the perfect time to test it out. I decided to do it ombre as well (which means the colors grow lighter). After I made the different shades of turquoise it was pretty fast to do. I did 2 rows of each shade until it is white at the top. To make it look like a ruffle you just have to roll the fondant out extremely thin and then bunch it together when you are sticking it on the cake - easy. I think it turned out to be one of my favorite cakes that I have made.

The Mortensen Wedding

One of my cousins just got married and asked me to make her wedding cake. They were going to have other deserts to eat so they just wanted something small to cut. The couple wanted to keep it simple and were making the cake topper themselves.  The chose to do a messy buttercream with red velvet cake and cream cheese filling. They had balloons all over the reception as decorations and wanted that theme carried over to the cake.
Here is the lovely bride, Megan Mortensen. Both the bride and groom were happy with their cake and the colors matched perfectly.

Bird Nest Easter Cake

I wanted to do something really simple and fast, so this is what I did . . .

It is 4 inch and 6 inch round tiers covered in fondant. I used real ribbons only because I didn't feel like coloring fondant. The bird nests are made out of Maifun Rice Sticks, I found them in the oriental section of the grocery store and just fried them up (they are done when the puff up and are still white but I left them in a little longer to add some color) then used colorful Easter candy eggs.
Easy and cute.

Giraffe Baby Shower Cake

This cute little cake was for a baby shower. It is a 3 layer 4 inch, a 5 layer 6 inch, and a 2 layer 8 inch with all different cake flavors and fillings. the giraffe, loop bow, polka dots, and giraffe spots are all made out of fondant. The loop bow pieces and pink giraffe were made a head of time and left out to dry, then put on the cake after it was finished. It was a fun cake to make and could be done with any animal print.

Mickey Mouse

Rome wanted to have a Mickey Mouse cake this year. The top tier is a Disneyland Mickey hat with his name stitched on. The bottom tier has modern art circles along with Mickey Mouse silhouettes all around in fun kid colors.

Cupcakes 4 ways

Cupcakes are only limited by your imagination, you can do just about anything on top of them. It is always fun to do a few different designs for a party to make hem more interesting. For those who don't like fondant there are the all butter cream cupcakes with bright pink roses on top. The other 3 designs have a little butter cream and then a fondant cap with ether different sized polka dots, strips, or checkers with a small rose. With the coordinating colors anything goes and looks fun.

Timeless Barbie

My daughter Annalyse has had another birthday, and she wanted to have a Barbie cake. Since I had already done an actual Barbie with a cake dress, I thought I would do something different. Of course the cake has to be pink then it has a classic Barbie silhouette with a few embellishments. We both loved how it turned out.
